Foundations of Digital Design
This semester long foundational course provides students with a introduction to digital design, tools, processes and systems common to careers in graphic arts and digital production. Exploration topics include printing enterprise, art and copy preparation, graphic design, image generation and assembly, production photography, graphic reproduction operations, binding and/or finishing related to digital. imaging, printing, and digital production. This course serves as an introductory course to a variety of AME Pathways including, Graphic Arts, Stage Technology, Film and Video Production, Multimedia Production, and is encouraged for all AME students.
Graphic Design and PublishingYearbook IYearbook I will focus on foundations of graphic design, copywriting, photography, and marketing a published item. Students will participate in writing all facets of the yearbook content and gain an understanding of journalistic style that is established through the Associated Press. Students will gain and apply knowledge of aesthetic values in graphic design including the elements of art and the principles to create layouts that engage the reader and audience responses. Students will be introduced to different career paths through research and awareness of careers that involve journalism, photography, and graphic design.
Yearbook II (In Development)Yearbook II will enhance student understanding of published material in the 21st Century. Advanced students will serve as editor in a project based learning environment and lead in the development of a yearbook publication, while gaining proficiency in industry-standard Adobe design and publishing software. Students develop advanced skills in graphic design, copywriting, photo editing, and the economics involved with creating and marketing a published item. They will gain mastery in the operation of the Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras manually, including effectively setting the exposure, white balance, ISO and focus, and Adobe photo editing software.

Media Arts in Arete Media AcademyMultimedia IThis year-long concentrator course is a part of the Arete Media Academy. 11th grade Arete students work with Adobe software to gain proficiency in Multimedia arts including contemporary professional practices in photography, layout, animation, video and audio editing, film, broadcasting, client-based design goals, forms of media using industry-standard tools and software. The class is project-based and students will work collaboratively to design, create, critique, and present digital and multimedia projects, with an emphasis on producing for a client. In many instances, projects will be integrated with academic goals aligned by the English and Social Studies courses in the Areté Media Academy. Students will develop an understanding of the role of media as a verbal and visual means of communication in today's society.
Multimedia IIThis year-long capstone course is a continuation of the Multimedia Productions I course and will take 12th grade students in the Arete Media Academy deeper into projects related to contemporary media. This course builds upon skills learned in Multimedia I to work towards mastery in visual design concepts and explores contemporary professional practices in photography, layout, animation, video and audio editing, film, broadcasting, conceptual game design, client-based design goals, and forms of media using industry-standard tools and software. The class is structured around projects; students will work together to design, create, critique, and present digital and multimedia projects, with an emphasis on producing for a client. In many instances, projects will be integrated with academic goals aligned by the English and Social Studies courses in the Areté Media Academy. Students will develop an understanding of the role of media as a verbal and visual means of communication in today's society.
